Mobile Search Advertising - What The Future Holds
I had the privilege of being of being interviewed by Joe Whyte over on the Hybrid SEM Blog. Joe is a contributer to the only dedicated search marketing magazine Search Marketing Standard which I am now a happy subscriber to. I was part of a series of interviews by “industry leaders” and you can read the interview here.
Some interesting points and some interesting opinions from the other interviewees are that local business and local search are going to be dominating the mobile search space in the coming years. As mobile devices become more and more advanced (iPhone anyone?) I think we will see a lot of business focusing in this vertical in the future. Something to think about.
It is also interesting to note that Google still has not given Ireland local business ads. However, I expect this to happen in the coming year and I think that local business listings with Google will be an absolutely essential part of executing an effective local search marketing campaign.
The SEOmoz crowd have a good write up on the topic and Bill Slawski (My favorite SEO blogger…subscribe to his feed if you are in any way technical about search) has an interesting note on how the local business ads are appearing in the middle of search results as a result of the new Google Universal Search. While Ireland is usually left behind when it comes to emerging search technologie, it might be worth thinking about your local search initiative now while the rest of the SMEs in Ireland are still trying to get their META tags just right. :)

Search Engines like Google are great for the PC. Why is Google so great for mobile?
Why should I click thru a multitude of pop ups or ads, waste MY mobile minutes, when I can go straight to the products sight?
One click from the keyword, logo, trademark, billboard, QR, 1D, 2D, UPC, etc., and I get directed right to the product or business. I can then be turned on to get location, coupons, price of a product, menus, schedule, tickets, etc all in one click.
What will Google have when I can say it and be instantly linked? Doesn’t this affect their businesss model? Direct to content.
I would reather just qode it!

Swampthing, Google is so great for mobile for two major reasons that spring to mind.
The first is that mobile search ads occupy far higher of a percentage of screen real estate and with AdWords click-to-call campaigns, you can have a potential prospect put in direct phone contact with you when they are searching for what you offer.
With mobile search ads, your listing is technically the number one spot. Who doesn’t want that?

I guess we have 2 differences of opinions.
What consumer / mobile web user does not want the ability to interact with products everywhere we go?
Why not in ‘one click’ or say the keyword, logo, trademark, slogan and be directed to the mobile web page to get further information?
First, Why type?
Second, Advertising with the greatest, PC search engine, can be so much more than clicking banners and receiving unwanted usless information on your mobile device.
Why not bill the brands to avoid click fraud and give the web user and consumer the greatest tool to navigate to content?
Isn’t ‘one click navigation’ less time searching?
What happens if Microsoft sees this?
