IIA Net Visionary Awards - The Democratic Irish Web Awards
As many of you know, the Irish Internet Association are holding their annual web awards on the 15th of November 2007. The Net Visionary awards are a little different to the Golden Spider awards in that they do not charge an extortionate fee to “nominate yourself” and they do not harbor any hidden agendas or favoritism toward the sponsors and judges. In fact, the shortlist of nominees are made up entirely from public votes.
With that in mind, I am delighted to announce that at least one of our clients has nominated me for the Internet Marketer award. (No brown envelopes or monthly fee discounts, I swear!).
If you feel inclined, please feel free to vote for me under the Internet Marketer category. A vote would be very much appreciated.
There is some real talent up for the awards this year. Below are a list of votes that I made this year: (The multiple votes below are the ones I had a VERY tough choice with but at least ONE person from RedFly LTD voted for).
Best Blogger
Keith Bohanna ~ Keith Bohanna Consulting - Because he has contributed is countless wasy to the online industry in Ireland.
Grandad ~ Head Rambles - Because he is just plain great.
Best Online Banking Service
Mary Dillon ~ Bank of Ireland - Because I use 365 online and RedFly uses BOI Business Banking and it works.
Best Podcaster
Conn O Muineachain ~ Edgecast Media - Because Conn really knows his stuff when it comes to podcasting. I hope to work with Conn before the year is out.
E-Government
Ronan Hurley ~ CAO - Because the CAO was one of the pioneering Irish government web apps and they got it right from the get-go.
Innovation
Alan O’Rourke ~ Spoiltchild - For Biology.ie - Because Alan and his team are fantastic designers.
Internet Entrepreneur
Michele Neylon ~ Blacknight - Because Michele and Blacknight are the best hosting company I have ever come across. period.
Mobile Internet
Emer Conlon ~ RTÉ Publishing - Because I could check news from home in the countless German airport visits on my mobile.
Online Trader
Geoff Boyle ~ 123.ie - Because Geoff got online insurance to work.
Michele Neylon ~ Blacknight - Again, because Michele runs the best hosting company in Ireland and Michele is also one of my Mentors.
Social Contribution
David Cochrane ~ Politics.ie - Because one day David may be family ;). Oh, and while I disagree with many of his political views, I think it’s great that he brings them to a wider (and younger) Irish audience.
Damien Mulley ~ mulley.net - Because Damien speaks his mind with absolutely no fear.
Technology Journalist Award
Damien Mulley ~ Sunday Tribune - Because Damien really knows his stuff and he deserves this award more than anyone.
Web Designer Excellence
Alan O’Rourke ~ Spoiltchild
Peter Knight ~ Edenweb
Darren Murphy ~ 2bscene Limited
All three deserve this award because RedFly Studios was not nominated and they are, in my opinion, among the best web designers in Ireland. It’s a shame David Behan didn’t make the list too.
Special thanks to Edenweb for the logo. Good luck to everyone.

Thanks again David, hopefully I will make it. If I win, I might even let you collect the award for me ;)
I’m sure the lads on IWF will be, as I am, very grateful.

Dave B - if you don’t make it to one awards ceremony you’ll probably make it to another …
Dave D - so when are you going to grace us with your presence? :)

Michele, I honestly am not putting this off (Although Carlow is a bit of a drive). I will be taking you up on the offer for lunch as soon as I possibly can. If I make the shortlist, I’ll see you at the awards.

Michele - ha ha… fingers cross I win something this year!
We should book an IWF table???
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:21 pm
I think an IWF table is a great idea! Count at least two RedFly staff in for that if the shortlist is made.
October 3rd, 2007 at 1:27 pm
Interesting idea :)
I’ll post about it

Hey, just noticed the nice comment. My political views have become rather steamrolled as a result of THAT website, but 9,000 people CAN be wrong, daily, over on Politics.ie. ;)
