The Irish Internet industry should be in a state of flurry right now. The Google Website Optimizer (Beta) is now OUT of private beta and available to all!
To all of you running an ecommerce site and/or a lead generation site that you can accurately track your conversions, sign up to Google Website Optimizer Now!
Bryan has some really, REALLY great Website optimizer resorces, including a Wordpress plugin. It’s pretty complicated but well worth a look.
To all of you that sell online or use your website for lead generation, if you are not using this tool, your competition are. Take a look at the website optimizer overview video. I will be blogging a LOT about this tool over the coming month.

Check your adwords account. They didn’t notify me by mail when one of our clients was accepted yesterday. We just saw the link in Adwords.
Bear in mind this tool us useless for most affiliate marketing as Google (Still!) does not allow concersion tracking code in external javascript. They still insist on the “Google site stats” image on converted pages.

This is true .. would you be able to make calls to any external script? Maybe you could have an on page script that controls the content within the google code? This seems like a longshot as most of googles javascript is obfuscated.

No, I contacted Google about it and they said this was against their TOS. (Something to do with privacy).
I actually call an external script to track conversions as GOALS in analytics as analytics allows you to do this. However, goal tracking in analytics and conversion tracking in adwords/analytics are different.
I was thinking of maybe adding conversion tracking code to a small popunder on exit, but again, not allowed. This is one of the BIGGEST drawbacks for affiliate marketers. But back on track, I have seem some truly AMAZING results with optimizer when conversion tracking CAN be set up.
