Hi Faith, please keep the faith (I couldn't resist). 2.1 will be released next week assuming the amazing beta testers don't come back with any more issues. It will also include an auto update feature so you wont have to worry about coming back here.

Subscribe to the blog to get notification of the release.

I wonder why this upgraded version (Firefox/3.5.7) is still not working on my end. This keeps appearing “Please navigate to a google search results page before using this extension!” Help here.

The great thing about Firefox is that bugs get squashed real quick! I reluctantly migrated to Firefox on the insistence of a techie friend over five years ago and have not looked back at all. If only the rest of the world can realise what a waste of time IE is, and embrace Firefox universally. Now this would make me a very happy man!

Thanks MAL -- Fantastic Mate!

You're obviously a fellow Aussie :)

I've been learning how to go about my internet marketing for some time now -- although I had unexpected downtime for the past few months, I am just now getting back in the saddle -- with a vengeance! (February 2010)

Your solution above is excellent and works very well for me.

... THANKS AGAIN MAL ...

I wish I could contact you directly -- why? -- because your solution helped me -- and I would like to return the favour.

For example, I am working on a special report on various traffic generation strategies, based on my own case studies. When the report is complete, I would like to give you a copy, and possibly give you a mention as well -- since your solution has helped me just when I needed it most.

You're obviously no dummy, so you can work out how to contact me through my blog :) ... I shouldn't need to tell you how :)

... I'm Dave X ... 8-)

Hello all,
I was having the same problem as many.

"Please navigate to a google search results page before using this extension!"

Firstly connecting to Google.com defaulted to Google.com.au, as it has done frustratingly for ages.
(writing to Google or my service provider did not even rate an answer)

Secondly my Firefox Google Global pluggin only ever worked once.

After updating both my browser and the latest bug fix still nothing worked.

Then I found a fix that worked for me.

On this page,
http://www.google.com/support/websearch/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=873
I found this link,
http://www.google.com/ncr
which seemed to bypass Google.com.au for me.

Strangely, typing in www.google.com did not redirect to the Australian
version anymore.

I found also that my Firefox Google Global pluggin now seemed to work also.

Spooks in the mist I guess?

But alas, after closing and reloading Firefox I was back to my old auto redirect
and faulty Google Global pluggin.

So, back to this page,
http://www.google.com/ncr
and we are working as preferred again.

This time I edited my bookmark entry to add the "/ncr"

No idea why this works, but there you go. Firefox Google Global pluggin
is working perfectly, and I can get the results I prefer.

cheers, Mal.

I too have been experiencing the error reported above when I search using Google.com.au, BUT when I used it from Google.co.uk the GGlobal add-on worked just fine - as normal.

Hopefully that will provide you some insight into the root of this ongoing bug. I am running Firefox 3.5.5 on XP OS.

This tool is awesome. But recently I'm having some problems with it. I can't seem to get it to work again. I uninstalled and installed, yet nothing shows up. I'm using Firefox Version 3.5.3.
Isn't this the latest FF, or is there another current version?

I hope that's not the source of the current problem...as in...sh'ld we upgrade our FF browsers?

Thanks for this tool I have noted it and will be using it a lot, as I am still very new to all this SEO and I have noticed how important it is. Thank you

Still doesn't work. I wish it did. All I get is a link to Totone in the menu, but even that doesn't do anything.

I'm using FF 3.5.2.

PS IS there any definitive discussion on how Google regionalises results? Quite frankly the way Google is doing it really p%^&sses me off and I know it does for a lot other people.

If I wanted local results I could walk down the street or use the yellow pages. The whole point of a search engine was so that y ou could find out what else was out there outside of your own neighbourhood, or in a place like Australia outside of your country.

Hi there Dave, I have just found this site and its filled with some great information.

I use Fire Fox all the time and have had no problems with the new version, but I have had a few people complaining about it, but for me its just great and thanks for the tips that you shared.

Hi Guys,
There are a number of us for whom the fix has not worked. Any ideas what might be causing it?

Thanks

I used to use this for FF 3.0.13 and now I've upgraded to FF 3.5.2 (it did this automatically but that's another story!). Anyway I've tried installing the add-on again since I'm in Australia and I find the add-on really useful.

However it doesn't seem to install at all.
I don't get any errors but it doesn't appear in the add-on list. I've sent you a message through your website (just now) and then found this page but even with this download the same thing happens.

I love this add-on and I'm so disappointed that I can't get it to work at the moment.

If you have any suggestions to help me out I'd be grateful!

Regards,
Karen

Hi Guys.

It works for me at the beginning but one week after I had install it… stopped working.
Is there any thing you guys recommend me to do? I’ve already tried to uninstall and install again but it didn’t work.

Thank you very much.

Great extension for FF.

However when I'm looking at results from google.com.au and I want to use the extension to get USA results, the extension won't let me. "Please navigate to a Google results page" message comes up.

So I have to go to goole.com.au and click to use google.com instead, then I can use the extension.

I've installed the 2.04 version from here, but the about box on the extension says 2.0 so perhaps it didn't upgrade as expected.

Any ideas for me to try?

Thanks

Just installed v2.0.4 and it works well. Personalizing from the right click option, I can add searches and the options menu works BUT the toolbar icon does not show any but the default searches AND the options and all tabs are not displayed in the drop down

One way to get natural links back to your website is by setting up a blog for your company. Make sure you network online with other blogs that complement yours. If you share industry news and have useful and relevant content, you'll attract links. Reference other bloggers in your content and link to other blogs in your industry.
